To provide further opportunities for all students to enjoy Mathematics outside of their normal lessons, the faculty provides several lunchtime clubs throughout the year.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
This is an opportunity for students to see how putting these essential subjects together can help you solve fun and challenging problems, as well as developing the skills that they and our country need for a successful future in a global economy. A group of students from year 8 to year 11 are currently working on a Green Powered Car project. Further opportunities for students from Years 7, 8 and 9 to join in with STEM club activities will arise throughout the year.
In M1 every Monday lunchtime. Coaching is available every week as well as the opportunity to play games and enter competitions. Open to all students from all year groups, no previous knowledge of the game is required, just the will to learn and the desire to improve.
Maths Lunchtime Homework Club
In M6 at lunchtime on Monday to Thursday.
An opportunity to get help from a Maths teacher with homework or perhaps with a topic being studied in class. Computers are also available for MyMaths or MathsWatch, especially useful if you are having trouble getting online at home.
In M5 Every Friday. The chance for students to enjoy playing games that will help to develop mathematical skills such as logic, problem solving and understanding probability.
Throughout the year teams are entered into and coached for a variety of competitions. These include UKMT challenges for Years 7 to 10 and the Runshaw College Maths Challenge, won again in 2014 by a team of Year 11 Students from Bishop Rawstorne. The Faculty also hosts an annual Maths Challenge for the local primary schools during the summer term.
