The Physical Education (PE) department continues to offer a wide and dynamic range of activities, all of which are designed to enable pupils to develop confidence and achieve sustained levels of success. Throughout the course of each academic year pupils are given the opportunity to take increased ownership of the PE curriculum. Their input is completely valued and often results in new exciting activities being included within each new programme of study.
Working with the pupils, the primary focus for our dedicated team of the Bishop Rawstorne Academy PE staff is to provide a safe, happy and challenging learning environment in which all learners feel secure and confident in their own ability. We aim to offer the best possible physically orientated learning experience, promoting health and well-being, and developing the commitment to following a healthy life of physicality.
Our GCSE PE results were once again comparable with any school within the UK. 75% of our students (31 candidates) achieved an A*-C grade with 10% of all school leavers progressing to study PE based courses at College level. The department currently has over 150 students following a GCSE qualification highlighting the popularity of the subject within the school
Our students have continued to excel throughout the course of the sporting year within District, County and Regional based competitions. They have all represented the school with great effort and pride through the many sports offered at Bishop Rawstorne Academy. Yet again there have been notable performances by football (boys and girls), cross-country, basketball and cricket teams.
The PE and Computing collaborate together in leading the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Students are able to complete both bronze and silver award during KS4. Over the last 4 years, over 400 students have started their Duke of Edinburgh Award journey. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a Duke of Edinburgh Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities. The department is also proud to run the Sports Leadership Level 2 inspiring our young students to develop the importance of community and helping others.
At all times we wish to work as a team in conjunction with Parents/Carers, as you are the most important partners we have.
